“Black tie optional.” “Jacket and tie required.” “No shirt, no shoes, no service.” There are certain standards of dress for different times and places. When formal attire is required, perhaps we wonder if the garments we have in our wardrobe are good enough. But we need not worry when it comes to what to wear at the wedding feast described in today’s Gospel lesson. When our heavenly Father invites us to the wedding feast at which His Son is the Bridegroom, He supplies us with the perfect attire: the righteousness of Jesus given at our Baptism.
Nothing in my hand I bring;
Simply to Thy cross I cling.
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Savior, or I die. LSB 761:3
Clothed in Christ, you are ready for the feast!
